Champions Trophy 2000

Champions Trophy, popularly known as the mini World Cup today, made its debut in the year 1998, as ICC KnockOut Trophy. A One Day International (ODI) cricket tournament, it was started with the aim of popularizing cricket in the non-Test playing nations of the world. The second tournament of the Champions Trophy was played in the year 2000 and was then known by the name of ICC KnockOut Trophy 2000.

Just like the debut tournament, 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy was also an ODI championship, which was played in Kenya. There were a total of 11 teams that took part in the tournament. To select the eight teams for quarter finals, pre-quarter final was played between six teams, out of which 3 went ahead. The final was played between New Zealand and India, with the former emerging as the winner. With this, New Zealand clinched their first win in a major ICC tournament.
