West Indies ODI Series Under Swine Flu Scanner
27-Jun-2009 16:01:00 GMT

Kingston: The Jamaican health ministry has put the ongoing One-day series between India and the West Indies under "special swine flu surveillance" after the outbreak of influenza A(H1N1) in the island nation.

Health Minister Ruddy Spencer has asked the local administration to take proper action to prevent the spread of the virus at public gatherings and has also appealed to the infected people to stay away from cricket grounds.

A team of 40 health officials will be working to screen spectators during the remaining three matches of the ODI series. India will play their second ODI here Sunday and the third and fourth matches are scheduled at St Lucia July 3 and 5.

The National Athletics Championships that started here Saturday has also been put under surveillance.

Over 21 cases of swine flu have been deteccted in Jamaica.

The outbreak of swine flu also forced the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) to postpone the 2009 Girls' and Boys' Youth Cup scheduled to be hosted in Trinidad and Tobago in July and August.
