Warwickshire Elected to Field Against England
01-Jul-2009 11:49:00 GMT

Birmingham: Warwickshire captain Ian Westwood won the toss and chose to field against England in the Ashes warm-up match at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

This three-day game was designed to give England first-class match practice ahead of next week's Ashes opener against Australia at Cardiff.

England captain Andrew Strauss led what was the probable first Test side although left-arm spinner Monty Panesar was under pressure for his place.

Meanwhile across the Midlands players on the fringes of the Test team were pushing for a place as the England Lions took on Australia in a four-day contest at Worcester.

Teams

Warwickshire: Boyd Rankin, Ian Westwood (c), Ateeq Javid, Chris Woakes, Ricky Clarke, Ian Trott, Tim Ambrose (w), Jim Troughton, Tony Frost, Naqaash Tahir, Keith Barker

England: Andrew Strauss (c), Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Kevin Pietersen, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Matt Prior (w), Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Monty Panesar

Umpires: Andy Hicks and Richard Illingworth
