Australia in South Africa, 2008/09
South Africa v Australia 4th ODI at Port Elizabeth - Preview
12-Apr-2009 22:35:00 IST

Port Elizabeth: Two more matches and a long and fascinating summer that has been played out between South Africa and Australia will be at an end.

If South Africa win, they clinch the series three-one and make sure that they stay at the top of the ICC one-day rankings, but Australia have to win to keep the series alive and go into the final match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Friday level on two-all.

History is with Australia - they have won seven out of the eight matches, including three World Cup matches, they have played at St George's Park, while St George's has not been South Africa's happiest hunting ground - they have won only 15 of the 23 matches they have played there. The last time South Africa beat Australia in Port Elizabeth was in April 1994, when the Proteas beat Allan Border's Australians by 26 runs.

AB de Villiers has been a thorn in Australia's side right through the summer, since the first Test in Perth, and nothing has changed in the shorter format.

Most teams prefer not to change a winning side and South Africa's strong victories in the previous two games could mean the same XI is used in Port Elizabeth.

Australia have added the Victorian Shane Harwood to their squad for this match, calling him over from the Rajasthan Royals' camp and he may replace Ben Laughlin in the starting line-up.

Stats and Trivia

  • South Africa have been Bracken's most difficult major opponent and in 16 ODIs against them he has managed 17 wickets at 38.88.
  • Five South African bowlers have an economy rate of less than 4.50 this series; for Australia only Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Hauritz are under that mark.
  • Australia have played eight one-day internationals at Port Elizabeth and have won seven of them.
