South Africa Beat Australia in 2nd ODI, Level Series
05-Apr-2009 20:47:00 IST

Centurion: A clinical win for South Africa who've returned the favour after that massive defeat in Durban. Parnell and Steyn did it for them, and their batsmen saw off the target with little difficulty. The series is now level 1-1, and we move to Cape Town for the third ODI on April 9.

South Africa new seamer Wayne Parnell claimed career-best figures to help bowl out Australia for 131 in 40.2 overs in the second One-Day International on Sunday at Centurion. He is the Man of the Match, in just his second ODI.

The 19-year-old Parnell, playing just his second One-dayer, took four for 25 in eight overs as Australia's top-order failed to unravel the secrets of his left-arm swing bowling.

Callum Ferguson top-scored for Australia with 50, he and Mitchell Johnson (30) bringing some respectability to the total with a seventh-wicket stand of 63 after they had slumped to 40 for six.

South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn also claimed four wickets, finishing with figures of four for 27 in 9.2 fiery overs.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting had won the toss for the seventh successive time against opposite number Graeme Smith. South Africa have two changes Jacques Kallis place of Hasim Amla and debuntant Roelof van der Merwe in for Makhaya Ntini.

"I'm very happy and it was a good outing for South Africa. I think its probably the best opening spells I've bowled. Michael Hussey was my favourite wicket, and it was good to get him because he whacked me around a little in Brisbane," said Parnell.

Brief Score: South Africa 132/3 (Smith 40) beat Australia 131 (Ferguson 50, Parnell 4-25, Steyn 4-27) by 7-wickets.
