25-Jul-2009 04:53:00 GMT

New Delhi: Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will lead Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League season 3.

Ganguly who was replaced by New Zealander Brendon McCullum in the second edition of the tournament in South Africa, met the franchise owner Shahrukh Khan in England when he was there to watch the ICC World Twenty20 Championship.

They discussed about captaincy as well as appointment of the new coach of the team for the next season of the twenty20 tournament.

According to sources, the KKR management will like to announce the decision later in the middle of August once the new coach is appointed. Though team management prefers Dave Whatmore for the job, Ganguly prefers India's former coach John Wright

New Zealand wicket-keeper Brendend Macculam who led Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL season two in South Africa will not be available for the next IPL due to the national duties.
