Rotterdam: In sharp contrast, Canada and Kenya, who are winless after four matches, will go head to head in the final group match on Friday before meeting again for the fifth-sixth position play-off at Excelsior Cricket Club in Schiedam.
A 51-run tenth-wicket stand between Nelson Odhiambo (29) and James Ngoche (21 not out) brought Kenya agonisingly close to a come-from-behind victory before it ran out of steam and was bowled out for 166 in 48.4 overs while chasing 173 for victory against Scotland.
Scotland fast bowler Matthew Parker, later declared player of the match, had earlier set up what looked set to be an easy victory for his side when he picked up 4-33 to leave Kenya tottering at115-9. However, Odhiambo and Ngoche batted exceptionally well and almost pulled out a rabbit from the hat.
Earlier when Scotland batted, Fraser Watts hit his fifth career half-century as his side struggled to 172-8. Watts’ 50 came off 90 deliveries and included two fours. Moneeb Iqbal was other main contributor with a 71-ball 36 that included three fours.
For Kenya, the pace and spin combination of Thomas Odoya (3-43) and James Ngoche (with outstanding figures of 10-1-18-3) were the pick of the Africa side’s attack.
