Matt Prior continued his fine form with a career-best 87 helps easy win over West Indies in 3rd ODI.
Matt Prior continued his fine form with a career-best 87 helps easy win over West Indies in 3rd ODI.

Edgbaston: Matt Prior's One-Day International best of 87 helps of England's beat West Indies by 58-runs in third and final one-day international at Edgbaston on Tuesday and won the series by 2-0.

Matt Prior's career-best 87, and a 149-run stand with Owais Shah who made 75, powered England to an imposing 328 and once Chris Gayle fell early there was never any chance of West Indies getting near.

Earlier, West Indies' skipper Chris Gayle won the toss and opt bowl first. Matt Prior's One-Day International best of 87 was the highlight of England's record total against the West Indies of 328 for seven.

Together with Owais Shah, who made an entertaining 75, wicket-keeper Prior put on 149 in 126 balls for the third wicket as England surpassed their previous ODI best against the West Indies of 306 for five at The Oval in 1995.

It was further proof, after their six-wicket win at Bristol on Sunday, which England could function effectively without injured stars Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen.

Paul Collingwood, on his 33rd birthday, took England past 300 with a four off Taylor before next ball striking the paceman for six.

Matt Prior is the Man of the Match, Stuart Broad is Man of the Series, Andrew Strauss reckons they will carry confidence into the World Twenty20.

Brief Score: England 328/7 (MJ Prior 87, OA Shah 75, JE Taylor 3-59) beat West Indies 270 (S Chanderpaul 68, D Ramdin 45, JM Anderson 3-58) by 58-runs.
