London: Kevin Pietersen celebrated his first innings as England captain with a century on Friday; steering his side to a first innings lead on the second day of 4th Test at The Oval.

A late rearguard by Harmison ensured that England stretched made their way to 316 in their first innings, and a handsome lead of 122.

The South Africa born Pietersen came to the crease in the first over of the day Ian Bell's dismissal, and immediately stamped his class to give England he edge.

Brief score: South Africa 194 and 37 for 1 (McKenzie 9* Amla 26*) trail England 316 (Pietersen 100, Collingwood 61, Harmison 49, Ntini 5-94) by 85 runs
