Injured Mills Replaced by McKay in New Zealand World Cup Squad
26-Mar-2011 16:34:00 GMT

Mirpur: Injured pacer Kyle Mills was replaced by Andy McKay in New Zealand's squad for the ongoing cricket World Cup after the ICC's Event Technical Committee approved the change.

"The ICC has confirmed the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has approved Andy McKay as a replacement player for the injured Kyle Mills in the New Zealand squad for the tournament," the ICC said in a statement.

The confirmation was conveyed to New Zealand Cricket on behalf of the committee on Saturday. Mills strained his left quadricep in New Zealand's group match against Canada on March 13.

Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the event technical committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness.

Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.

Mills is the second player to be replaced due to injury in New Zealand which has entered the semifinal after beating South Africa in the quarters last night.

The 30-year-old McKay is a left-arm medium pacer from Auckland who has represented New Zealand in 13 ODIs claiming 19 wickets so far. McKay is due to arrive in Sri Lanka on Sunday from New Zealand.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 consists of David Richardson (ICC, chairman), Prof. Ratnakar Shetty (Tournament Director), Campbell Jamieson (IDI representative), Anil Kumble (host nominee), David Lloyd (independent nomination) and Sanjay Manjrekar (independent nomination).
