England in India, 2008/09, 2nd Test, 1st Day
India v England 2nd Test Match, Mohali
18-Dec-2008 21:23:00 IST

Mohali: With a new-found aura of invincibility around them, a domineering India will seek to plot a second whitewash of England when the two teams clash in the last of the two-Test series in Mohali on Friday.

What now, then, for England? Chennai was the scene of some extravagant personal performances from their cricketers - most notably the twin-centurion, Andrew Strauss - but they have emerged with nothing to show for their efforts save a significant amount of mental bruising.

India, on the other hand, will saunter into Mohali with the confidence of a team that now believes that anything is possible. Tendulkar's 41st century is already being regarded as the crowning glory of his matchless career, while Yuvraj's unbeaten 85 could yet prove to be a watershed innings.

In the early hours of the day, the pitch will be helpful for the seam bowlers as ball will swing well. Conditions here are entirely different from Chennai as temperature is low and there are winds blowing in the morning that will provide an ideal condition for swing bowlers. It means in-form Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma are favorites of the opening day if England bat first.

Drawing Broad Despite Dravid's form worries, India are not expected to dispense with the services of their former captain just yet, which means an unchanged side is likely to take the field in Mohali. Stuart Broad return after fully fit, he may replaced James Anderson. Anderson and Harmison both produced curate's egg performances, though Harmison, one suspects, remains the likelier man to star on what is traditionally one of India's bouncier surfaces.
Weather Glorious weather is forecast for all five days of the Test. A maximum of 20oC and minimum of 10oC is predicted. Mornings will nice and cool and fast bowlers will able to run in hard and bowl spells.
Pitch Report The pitch at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium will assist the seam bowlers during the second Test match between India and England starting from Friday, says chief curator Daljeet Singh.
