Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2008/09, 4th Test
India Caugth In Krejzy Spin, 2nd Day Of Nagpur Test
08-Nov-2008 08:15:00 IST

Nagpur: Thirty-five balls in the post-lunch session, which yielded just 19 runs, were all that Krejza needed to claim the last five wickets as the hosts spiraled to 444 all out after Sourav Ganguly and skipper MS Dhoni had taken them to a seemingly commanding 404 for 5 before the lunch break. Simon Katich then helped the Aussies stake their claim on the match.

The visitors were 189 for 2 at the stumps on Day two at VCA's jamtha ground, with Katich eight short of ton and Michael Hussey five away from a half-century.

Session by Session
1st Session
- Runs 93, Wkts 0, Overs 26
2nd Session - Runs 80, Wkts 6, Overs 22.5
3rd Session - Runs 146, Wkts 1, Overs 38

Highlights of the Day

  • Sourav Ganguly, playing his final Test, and MS Dhoni hit half-centuries while off-spinner Jason Krejza enjoyed a dream debut, capturing eight wickets. Replaying to India's 441, the tourists got a solid start through Simon Katich (92).
  • 10th times Ricky Ponting has been dismissed by Harbhajan Singh in 12 Tests. No either batsmen has gotten out to Bhajji as many times as Ponting. 'Punter' too has not gotten out to any other bowler as many times.
  • Jason took 8 for 215, the 8th best figures in a first Test. But he also conceded the most runs in an innings by a debutant.

Brief Score: Australia 189 for 2 (Katich 92*, Hussey 45*) trail India 441 (Tendulkar 109, Ganguly 85, Sehwag 66, Laxman 64, Dhoni 56, Krejza 8-215) by 252 runs
