Highveld Lions vs Guyana, CLT20 2010, Johannesburg

Highveld Lions Looking Forward to Homeground Advantage

18-Sep-2010 10:02:00 GMT

Johannesburg: The past week's training sessions in the Highveld Lions camp has seen the team sharpening their claws for their homeground clash against Guyana on Sunday.

The team, who won their first game in a glorious face-off against the Mumbai Indians, are well aware that they did not show peak form against the Australian Redbacks. Although hindsight always delivers more clarity on what should have been done differently, the Highveld Lions have chosen to focus ahead, all engines full-throttle.

"Obviously, we might have been a bit complacent after the match against the Mumbai Indians. The main thing for us as a team at this stage, however, is focussing 110% on Sunday's match against the West Indies' team," said vice-captain and wicketkeeper, Thami Tsolekile.

As an added bonus, the match played at the Wanderers fits in nicely with the players' preference and strategy. After a few days rest, the guys got back in action on Wednesday and have, since then, spent long hours preparing mentally and physically for the game ahead. "We might have made life a bit harder for ourselves by losing against the (Australian) Redbacks but we have certainly not let the pressure get to us. We have gone about preparing for the game with every bit of enthusiasm and thoroughness we normally would. We'll be there to play the game to the best of our abilities," said Lawrence Mahatlane, assistant coach.

The team's skipper is enthused by the prospect of facing the opposition in the Bullring. "Sunday is going to be another great cricketing event at the Wanderers. I know there's no other place I would rather be in Johannesburg come Sunday and look forward to seeing the stadium painted red," said Alviro Petersen, captain of the Highveld Lions.
