ICC Test Rankings
England Move on Fifth Place, Pakistan Down to Sixth
18-May-2009 23:17:00 IST

Dubai: Riding on their thumping series win over the West Indies, England on Monday climbed to fifth place in the ICC Test rankings, pushing Pakistan to sixth.

England mauled West Indies by an innings and 83 runs at Chester-Le-Street in the second Test to blank the visitors 2-0, having won first Test at Lords by 10 wickets.

The series win has helped England gain three ratings points, which has put it ahead of Pakistan which previously occupied fifth place.

The West Indies remains in seventh spot after its series loss. But the reverse has cost it four rating points and it is now just three points above eighth-placed New Zealand.

India continue to be at third position in the list, headed by Australia.

India opener Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday jumped to his career-best ICC Test ranking of number three, thanks to West Indian Shivnarine
Chanderpaul's poor show in the recent series against England.

Gambhir gained one spot due to Chanderpaul's lacklustre performance in the two-match Test series that saw the West Indian slip two places from joint second in the previous chart to fourth position.

In the bowlers' list, gangly fast bowler Ishant Sharma broke into the top 20 while Harbhajan Singh continues to be the top Indian bowler at sixth position.

Senior fast bowler Zaheer Khan occupies 11th spot in the bowling list still headed by Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan.

In all rounders list, South African Jacques Kallis still on top.
