London: England beat South Africa by six wickets to secure a consolation win in the fourth and final Test here on Monday. South Africa won the series 2-1. Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss each scored half centuries in second innings to help Kevin Pietersen start his tenure as captain with a victory.

"We had a chat and said how we wanted to platy this fixture and I couldn't have asked for anything more," Pietersen said.

England new captain Kevin Pietersen (421 runs in 7 innings with 2 hundreds) and South African captain Graem Smith (369 runs in 8 innings with 2 hundreds) have declared Player of the tournament. and Pietersen also declared Man of the Match for his century (100) in first innings

Brief Score: England 316 and 198 for 4 (Cook 67, Strauss 58) beat South Africa 194 and 318 by six wickets
