Cuttack: Deccan Chargers produced a fine bowling display after Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White played cracker of an innings to secure the second victory of the IPL 5 in Cuttack.
Deccan Chargers dismissed Michael Clarke and Sourav Ganguly in quick succession to dent Pune Warriors chase in their IPL 5 match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
The 90 runs partnership for the second wicket between Clarke and Ganguly were broken when the former got run-out while running for the second after being dropped by Shikhar Dhawan at point.
Dhawan then struck in his first over to give Pune another blow by removing Ganguly to leave Warriors at 96/3 in 12.4 overs.
Clarke, who is making his IPL debut, hammered boundaries all over the park including three boundaries in a row off Dale Steyn in sixth over.
Deccan Chargers gave Pune Warriors the taste of their own medicine by removing Manish Pandey on the first ball. Marlon Samuels also dismissed Parthiv Patel on the first delivery of the match.
Chasing 187-run target, Pune lost Pandey when he played towards mid-on where Sangakkara took the catch off Ankit Sharma.
Earlier, Kumar Sangakkara and Cameron White stitched 157 runs stand to set a stiff target of 187 for Pune Warriors.
Sangakkara and White played scintillating knock of 82 and 74 respectively to power Chargers to post a huge total on the board. JP Duminy (4 off 3 balls) and Biplab Samantray (2 off 2 balls) stayed unbeaten at the crease as Deccan managed to score six runs in the last over.
Ashish Nehra struck to break the record partnership of the season as he removed Sangakkaram who hammered ten fours and two sixes in his match revival innings.
Wayne Parnell ended another fine knock in the next over by removing White, who smacked four fours and as many sixes in which he hit three sixes in a row off Sourav Ganguly in the 18th over.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and opted to bat against Pune Warriors in the 42nd match of the tournament.
Sangakkara is back into the side as he replaced Dan Christian and Biplab Samantray also included in place of Ishank Jaggi.
All eyes will be on the Australian skipper Michael Clarke, who is making his IPL debut as Pune left out Jesse Ryder. Wayne Parnell and Murali Kartik replaced Alfonso Thomas and Rahul Sharma.
