Crowe, Madugalle Are Match Referees For Ashes

London: New Zealand's Jeff Crowe and Sri Lanka's Ranjan Madugalle were today appointed match referees for the Ashes Series commencing from July 8 in Cardiff, England.

West Indian Billy Doctrove and Aleem Dar of Pakistan will be the on-field umpires for the first match of the five-Test series between Australia and England, while Doctrove will be joined by South African Rudi Koertzen for the second encounter at the Lord's.

Koertzen and Dar will officiate in the third match in Birmingham, while Kiwi Billy Bowden and Pakistan's Asad Rauf will team up for the fourth and fifth Tests at Leeds and The Oval respectively.

Meanwhile, ICC also announced that Australian Alan Hurst will lead the playing control team during Pakistan's six-week tour of Sri Lanka starting next month.

The first Test in Galle will be umpired by Australian Daryl Harper and British Ian Gould of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. Harper will be joined by his compatriot Simon Taufel for the second Test in Colombo, while Taufel and Gould will stand in the third Test in the same city, an ICC release said today.

Brit Steve Davis will stand in the entire ODI series which starts in Dambulla from July 30 along with the local appointments, while the one-off Twenty20 match will be umpired by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appointees, the release said.

Besides, In the Caribbean the West Indies will host Bangladesh for two-Test series during which Andy Pycroft of Zimbabwe will be the match referee, with Kiwi Tony Hill and Sri Lankan Asoka de Silva being the two on-field umpires.

Pycroft will then hand over the baton to Roshan Mahanama who will oversee the three-match ODI series and a one-off T20 match.

The ODI series will be umpired by Hill along with local appointments, while the August 2 T20 will be officiated by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) appointees, the release said.
