BCCI to Issue Notices to Players Involved in Pub Brawl18-May-2010 05:17:00 GMT
New Delhi: Acting tough on indiscipline among players, the Indian cricket board on Monday decided to issue show cause notices to some players, including senior members of the side, for their involvement in a pub brawl in the West Indies.
Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said president Shashank Manohar has directed secretary N. Srinivisan to issue the show cause notices on Tuesday.
"The BCCI president has asked the secretary to issue the show-cause notice on Tuesday," Shetty said.
The decision was taken after the BCCI top brass went through the report submitted by tour manager Ranjib Biswal.
"Biswal met the president and secretary and had a discussion on the tour and the report he submitted," Shetty said.
He gave the information about the incident to both. The board also probed into the incident on its own. After considering all the information gathered, the president has decided to issue a show cause notice to the concerned players.
Senior players like Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra are likely to face the ire of the board. Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla were also reportedly present in the pub.
The incident took place May 11 after India lost their last Super Eights match to Sri Lanka. Some of the players went to a local pub where they had a verbal altercation with fans.
