Australia v West Indies, 3rd Test, 5th day, Perth
Australia Secure 2-0 Series Win Against Windies
20-Dec-2009 03:54:00 GMT

Perth: Australia have won by 35 runs in what has been another exciting Test match over the last five days. They bowled West Indies out for 323 to complete a 2-0 win in the 3-Test series. Australia needed 21 balls on the last day to win the final Test and take the Frank Worrell Trophy with a 2-0 victory over West Indies.

The result was virtually assured as soon as the day broke sunny, with the hosts wanting one wicket and it came when Kemar Roach was ruled caught behind via an umpiring review.

Roach and Gavin Tonge had added 15 when Doug Bollinger and the Australians were certain Roach had got an edge to Brad Haddin.

There were some brilliant performances by players from both teams but the highlights of the match was the five wicket haul for Doug Bollinger to follow up a good batting display which saw Australia post 520.

Chris Gayle's ton in the West Indies innings was not enough as they finished 208 short but the spirited effort from the visitors in the second innings to bowl Australia out for just 150, thanks to some brilliant bowling from Dwayne Bravo and Sulieman Benn got them right back in it.

Narsingh Deonarine and Brendan Nash led the visitors' charge in the run chase with a 128 run stand for the fourth wicket after an initial setback which saw them lose three early wickets but it all started to fall apart with wickets falling in a hurry once Deonarine was out.

There was a 46 run last wicket partnership which made it an interesting affair but Australia clinched a win after being on top for most of the match. Chris Gayle sweeped the Man of the Match and Man of the series awards for his exciting centuries in the last couple of matches.

Brief scores
Australia: 520 for 7 dec & 150
West Indies: 312 and 323 (Deonarine 82, Nash 65)
Status: Australia won by 35 runs
Series: Australia won series by 2-0
MOM: Chris Gayle (West Indies)
Man of the series: Chris Gayle (West Indies)
