New Zealand in Australia, 2008/09
5th ODI Abandoned between Australia v New Zealand 2009
13-Feb-2009 18:51:00 IST

Brisbane: Australia had a pathetic start, loosing 3 wickets in quick successions (3 wickets-30 runs). Then in the 5th wicket partnership Brad Haddin and Ferguson played brilliantly and scored a partnership of 98 runs. Brad haddin was not out at 88 runs of 65 balls and Ferguson was playing at 55 runs of 35 balls.

Again due to drizzle, New Zealand innings was reduced to 22 overs. They also didn't had a good start and lost wickets on regular intervals. But they maintained a very good run rate to be in the match. Guptil played some good innings, he was not out at 64 runs from 34 balls and Diamanti was supporting him well at 26 runs from 22 balls.

It was a terrific match, with crowd more than 20,000 gathered in the stadium. New Zealand had an edge over the Australians, having scored 123 runs with 4 wickets in hand and 8 overs were still to be bowled.

Rain again came and match had to be stopped from 15th over. There was no Duckworth Lewis Method as each side has to play minimum of 20 overs to make this method come into effect.

Match had to be Abandoned, 5 Match Series was Drawn 2-2, but Australia retained the Richard-Headley Trophy 2009, as Australia won this Trophy last year, so they will keep the Trophy with themselves.
