England v West Indies, 2nd Test, 2nd Day
2nd Day Washout Due to Heavy Rain
15-May-2009 21:07:00 IST

Chester-le-Street: England endured a frustrating Friday down at the Riverside as the second day of the second Test against the West Indies was washed out.

Persistent rain throughout meant not a ball was bowled at Durham, play finally being abandoned at 4pm following an inspection by umpires Steve Davis and Asoka De Silva.

The hosts had been set to resume their first innings in the strong position of 302 for two, Alastair Cook still at the crease with 126 to his name.

The Essex opener had helped put on 213 for the second wicket with county colleague Ravi Bopara, who made 108 before falling just before close on day one.

Nightwatchman James Anderson survived some hostile bowling from West Indies' Fidel Edwards to reach the end of play unbeaten on four.

England will hope for better weather on Saturday. They currently lead the two-match series 1-0 after an emphatic 10-wicket win in the first Test at Lord's inside three days.
