Hamilton: India bowled out New Zealand for 279 runs in their first innings on day one of the first Test at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Wednesday. Gambhir and Sehwag helped India to 29/0 on stumps of Day one.

Virender Sehwag (22) and Gautam Gambhir (6) were at the crease at close of play.

Earlier, India bowled out New Zealand for 279 runs in their first innings after Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and put in the Kiwis to bat.

Centurion Jesse Ryder was the last Kiwi wicket to fall when he mistimed a hit to mid-on for VVS Laxman to take the catch off Ishant Sharma. Ryder got to his maiden Test century on the previous delivery with a four to the mid-wicket fence.

Maiden Test century by Jesse Ryder and 3rd ton by skipper Daniel Vettori put on a record 186-run partnership for 7th wicket.

Their seventh-wicket innings-rejuvenating partnership bettered the 163 that Bert Sutcliffe and Bruce Taylor had knit together against India at Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1964-65.

Munaf Patel took 2 wickets in 2 balls to reduce New Zealand to 246/8 after tea on day one of the first Test at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Daniel Vettori during the first day of the first Test between India and New Zealand.

Munaf first gave India a crucial breakthrough when he induced an inside edge off Daniel Vettori's bat and Mahendra Singh Dhoni dived to his right to take a good catch. The New Zealand captain hit 2 sixes and 14 fours in his vital knock of 118 runs.

On the very next delivery, Munaf clean bowled Kyle Mills by a scorching yorker bowled at 140 kmph.

Vettori, his third century, added 186 runs for the seventh wicket with Jesse Ryder to lead the Kiwi fightback who were at one stage tottering at 60 for six.

Indian pacers Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma and Munaf Patel reduced New Zealand to 61/6 at lunch on day one of the first Test at Seddon Park Ishant Sharma bowls to Martin Guptill on day one during the first Test between India and New Zealand in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Munaf took his first wicket when he had Brendon McCullum (3) caught at second slip by VVS Laxman.

India were lucky to get the fifth wicket when James Franklin (0) was adjudged out by umpire Simon Taufel even though the batsman did not edge the Ishant delivery. The ball hit Franklin's pad and went into the hands of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Taufel raised the finger leaving Franklin amazed.

Two deliveries prior to Franlin's dismissal, Ishant took the fourth wicket when he got the ball to come in, Ross Taylor (18) came forward, the ball edged his pads and hit his off-stump through the gap between bat and pad.

Breif Score: India 29/0 (V Sehwag 22*) trail New Zealand 279 (Vettori 118, Ryder 102, I Sharma 4-73, MM Patel 3-60) by 250-runs.
